SubPar Heroes:

SubPar Heroes is a 3rd person action role-playing game along the same lines as Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and X-men legends. The story revolves around several different heroes who never quite learned how to use their powers properly or effectively. A few of the heroes also suffer from personal neurosis which limit their potential.

When the entire city's powerful and competent heroes go missing its up to the "sub par" heroes to rescue the proficient heroes and defeat the villains. The game will maintain a strong comedic feel using the same premise and concept as the idea that Squirrel girl of Marvel comics was able to defeat Dr. Doom. Think Mystery Men the video game.

The game is purely about fun and bringing back the classic feel of teamwork that many experienced playing games such as "Ninja Turtles: The arcade game", The Simpsons, and even the X-men Coin-op arcade games.

Game Play:

  • There are eighteen total heroes and twelve playable heroes that the player gets to interact with during the course of the game, and one fun hero who is emotionally dependent on his mother, which kind of limits his interaction. The five non-playable storyline heroes are there to move game along. Each Subpar Hero has their own strange quirks and personalities that will make a fun beat-‘em-up game.
  • In single-player mode player one can control one of four heroes with the ability to switch between the four characters at will. When the player is not in control of the other 3 heroes the other heroes will move and act independently while still following the lead of the active hero. When in multi-player mode, each player (up to four) will control the hero of their choosing. If less than four players are playing, the remaining characters can be controlled by switching to them, similar to single player mode.
  • One bunker buster hero (high damage) is used every level. There is no healing in combat, however, a healer will do fix ups after the fact or work with Morgus' special ability.
  • There are four players on the screen at once for both multi-player fun or solo player chaos, and it will require team work to defeat the bosses. The main focus of SubPar Heroes is good old fashioned teamwork. Each character has his/her own unique abilities for combating the evil forces that plague their world. Alone they are powerful, but only by joining forces and using those amazingly inept powers can they overcome the obstacles they are about to face.
  • Each player gets four moves that require energy to use. Bad guys can sometimes drop random food items that raise energy. Each players also has two generic attacks (punch or kick), four SubPar super moves that the player can use when the combo bar fills to the appropriate power level. There is also the "sissy button" option as a humorous taunt effect; each character has three possible taunts. And finally the jump button which can be combined with an attack for a jump kick.
  • There are three energy bars which fill up as the player attacks or receives damage. If the player stands still the bar goes up very slowly. The bar moves fastest when receiving or doing a lot of damage.
  • Each of the basic super powers uses a percentage of the energy bar. The lowest level power uses 1/4th of the energy bar.
  • The second power uses one half of the players energy bar. The third power uses three-fourths and the fourth and strongest ability uses the full bar.
  • When the player has filled two full energy bars they have the ability to do combo moves with another player(Character).
  • If the hero has three energy bars full, they are able to do an ultimate move. If all four heroes have three energy bars full they can call out a special character(Mama's Boy) who does a high damage attack to everything on the screen. After this attack the energy bar fills up slower then normal for a period of time. Mama's boy can also be called if rare icons fare found while the player travels through the level.

Plot

Set in a world where superheroes are commonly known and accepted, the SubPar heroes are trying to find their place amongst these extraordinary beings. However, the SubPar heroes are shunned throughout the super hero community. They are a rag tag group of heroes that no one wishes to work with. Some smell bad, some are a little too hyper to deal with, and others... well they are just plain crazy.

The city is holding its eighteenth award ceremony to celebrate the day that the Phantom Photon -- Earth's Greatest threat -- was defeated by Captain Prime. It has been nineteen long years since Captain Prime's retirement, and all of the planet's heroes (except for the SupPar heroes) have shown up to party (like its 1999) at the city held banquet.

During the banquet, all of Earth's heroes mysteriously vanish. Now, it is up to the Subpar Heroes to protect the world and find the missing heroes.

Are they up to the task? Can they really save the day? Did I leave my stove on?

She didn't have any skills or talents that could be used for a job.

One day she saw an add for modeling agency and decided to audition -- after all she was a very beautiful girl. When she arrived at the agency, she saw that there were many girls also hoping for their big break. Dollie made it to the last round but in the end she was not chosen for the position. Nobody knows for sure what exactly happened to the Phantom Photon all those years ago. Some believe that Captain Amazing was merciful, and let the Phantom live out the rest of his life in peace. Others believe the he showed no mercy and destroyed his nemesis once and for all. What really happened to the greatest villain the world had every known? Only Captain Prime can tell you that.

Having had time to “age” gracefully, Genghis has been able to acquire a large amount of wealth, over the years. A powerful and successful businessman now, only three people within his corporate empire know the truth of this man. His company is involved in everything from biotechnology, military grade weapons, to graphic entertainment.

There have been several investigations that Mr. Khan even holds a powerful role in the black market, but he is able to keep himself from ever getting dirty, to be charged with any crimes. His endeavor to rule the world still exists, his methods now are just a little bit more modern. He has mastered several hundred styles of combat, and is a master swordsman. Levels

The Concert

The SubPar Heroes have broke into the BASE in order to find the city's real heroes. While there, they get a distress signal from "Shizzle Rizzle" -- a mid-grade hero at a hip-hop concert for the band BLAH. It seems that the villain "Mosh Pit" has crashed the concert with his punk rock goons. There are three stages to this level.

The Subpar Heroes meet Shizzle Rizzle, who is understandably upset that real heroes didn't come to help her, but is willing to accept the SubPar's help if they can prove themselves. In order to do this, the SubPar heroes must go to the concert and rescue several concert goers from being moshed by Mosh Pit's punks and then, after rescuing the last person, defeat the mini-boss. Secondly, the heroes meet back up with Shizzle Rizzle and then head on to rescue the band and some of the band's groupies. After this is accomplished the SupPar Heroes must contend with a second mini-boss. The final stage of the level is the Subpars + Shizzle Rizzle have to stop Mosh Pit from escaping and find out that he has information on where [insert big boss' name here] is.

Shizzle Rizzle is a melee type who's attacks are all dance based, maybe a a PBAoE from a breakdance move, for example. Her special is that she breaks out into a dance something like The Macarena or The Electric Slide (of course accompanying catchy music starts playing when she does and the lights go all disco), and the mobs are forced to jump in as her back up dancers, during which time the Subpars can attack the dancing mobs.

Tom's Club

This level is in the demo. Count Reginald and his right hand woman, Dolly D., have gone out to do a little shopping. The target for their completely free shopping spree is the local Tom's Club. The heroes get a tip that someone is causing trouble at the store and go to investigate. When they arrive most of the store patrons have escaped but a few are still trapped inside. The heroes enter to find out the cause of the trouble.

After they are inside they come face to face with the well dressed, if slightly feminine, henchmen of Count Reginald. Knowing that Count Reginald's leading lady Dolly D. isn't far away, the heroes begin to clean up the riffraff. After fighting their way through the store, rescuing the few customers still trapped inside, they find Dolly D.

The heroes must defeat the frilly Dolly and then continue through the store and into the warehouse. They must dispatch the henchmen in the warehouse and a crazy man on a forklift.

Finally, they exit the back of the warehouse and emerge at the loading dock for the store where they meet Count Reginald himself. After a brief skirmish with the dastardly distinguished gentleman, the Count escapes in his helicopter. With Dolly D. safely in police custody, the heroes continue on there mission to help those in need.
